Phase 1 - Learning and Unlearning

As I already noted, there is both good information and bad information out there regarding getting in shape. Unfortunately, it can be hard to tell the difference because a lot of the crap disguises itself as legitimate fact.

So maybe we should just start from scratch. In the words of a hairy-eared, light-saber wielding little green puppet, “You must unlearn what you have learned.”

This phase is a critical component of building self-efficacy, a behavior-change model that you will learn about in the first chapter on motivation. The intention of this phase is to provide you with a solid background of the theory behind getting in shape so that you feel comfortable with the monumental undertaking you are about to engage in.

I should note that Phase 1 is by far the largest section of the book. I envision that it may make up about 40% of the finished product, but the result is that you will know more about the getting in shape than most fit people do by the time you're finished reading it.
